Welcome to our New Website
We are excited to be launching our brand new website. For the past few months, we have been reviewing, re-writing and re-designing our website to ensure it is fit for purpose and meets all of our tenant's needs. We want to make it as easy as possible for tenant's to access what they need such as reporting a repair; paying rent and getting in touch. We wanted to ensure our website reflected our values as an organisation such as our commitment to keeping tenant's informed; being accessible by all and being technology friendly. Although we are launching our website today, we are aware that in order to continue to be fit for purpose, our website must be regularly updated and reviewed. We also welcome your feedback on how we can keep our website relevant and show our tenants the things you need to see. So please give us your feedback by emailing info@wmhaltd.org.uk or by giving us a call on 0151 647 5471

Rek41 set to take on Copperfield site in new Birkenhead venture
The site that was previously the Copperfield pub in the heart of Birkenhead offered an opportunity for an organisation to be in the centre of the community and make a real impact. The team at Rek41 agreed, and we here at Wirral Methodist Housing Association are proud to say that a lease has been agreed and Rek41 will soon be opening it's doors to the community. Rek41 is at its core a social club, with a difference. The idea behind Rek41 was developed by and with the support of recovering substance abusers and mental health service users. Providers of local services also provided support in the development of the idea. Rob Cumine said of the project 'Birkenhead offers a fantastic range of services for both mental health and substance abuse recovery, however those services close at 5pm. Throughout psychology it is widely accepted that environment plays a huge role in both mental health and addiction. As it stands the area is beginning to create a day time culture of recovery through positive interactions within the local community and therefore environment. However, these positive environments close for the evening and weekends. Rek41 views recovery as ongoing journey and sees no reason why individuals should not be able to enjoy such things as live bands, games, quizzes and many other aspects of social life. We are excited to see what Rek41 have in store for the Copperfield site and watch this space for more news on what is happening in the local community.

If you have previously reported problems with damp, mould and condensation, and you don’t feel it has been sorted properly please contact us. We will treat it as an official complaint and resolve the problem. We understand the challenges of keeping homes heated during the cost of living crisis and keeping homes ventilated in cold weather. Condensation can quickly build up without either heating or ventilation, so here are some tips to help cut down condensation. Condensation happens when warm, moist air from activities like cooking and bathing, hits a cold surface such as a window or cold wall. Did you know that each person produces an average of four pints of water each day through day-to-day activities in their home? It’s more common in wintry weather and left untreated can turn to black mould. It forms on internal surfaces when the temperature drops sufficiently below the temperature of moist air inside your home. Many of these problems though can be easily resolved or prevented. Here’s what you can do to look after your home this winter and reduce condensation:
- Try to leave your central heating on a constant low setting for as much time as possible, or additionally set the timer to boost the heating in the morning and the afternoon/evening.
- Try to avoid drying clothes inside and over radiators. If you can’t do this place the clothes on a rack in a room next to an open window, with the door closed and where possible the extractor fan switched on.
- If you have a tumble dryer, make sure it is properly ventilated or that the condenser is regularly emptied.
- Keep extractor fans on in your home especially if you’ve just had a shower or have been cooking.
- Cover your pans with lids when you’re cooking and leave your extractor fans on.
- Wipe away any condensation from windows and doors to prevent mould.
- Keep your furniture away from walls to allow air to flow around.
