Wirral Gets its First `Lifetime` Homes

Published 13th October 2009

Wirral Methodist Housing Association unveiled their latest innovative housing scheme at Bedford Road, Rock Ferry in Birkenhead with local MP, The Right Hon. Frank Field on hand to meet his new constituents and inspect the accommodation offered by the `Lifetimes Homes` standards, the first such scheme in Wirral.

Tenants were presented at the same time with a `Welcome Pack` of household goods and groceries as a moving-in present by Gwyneth Moore widow of Malcolm Moore,a long serving Board Member of the Association in whose memory she had made a significant donation, which the Association decided should be used for this purpose.

Chief Executive, Alun Hughes said that he made no apology for continuing to stress the need for families with disability not to be overlooked.”The flexibility that `Lifetimes Homes` standard provides to help families lead fulfilled lives and the ease of their adaptability to meet future differing mobility needs is something of which we are particularly proud. The Association is once again at the forefront of drawing attention to what is possible” he said .

The Right Hon. Frank Field was similarly impressed with what the Association had again achieved through its innovative approach, not just the quality of the internal spaces, but also the attention to external detailing intended to compliment and enhance the locality. He was particularly taken with the warmth of the homes achieved with minimal input through under-floor wet central heating supported by a construction giving a SAP value of 85 (B band rating).
