HELP SOMEONE WITH DEMENTIA TO DO THE THINGS THEY LOVE
Side by Side is a new Alzheimer`s Society service on the Wirral which helps people with dementia to keep doing the things they love - or try new things - with the support of a volunteer. Whether you go to the cinema together, join an arts group, or meet up for a coffee and a chat, your one-to-one support can make it easier for a person with dementia, who might sometimes feel isolated or find it difficult to leave their home, remain active and part of their local community. We need volunteers to help people with dementia do enjoyable activities during the day, evening or weekend; in person or over the phone. This is a flexible way to give your time and you really will make a huge and positive difference to someone`s life. We`ll of course provide you with support and training so you`re confident in carrying out your role. If you`d like to find out more, we`d love to hear from you. As a volunteer you can also claim travel and activity expenses. Email: wirral@alzheimers.org.uk or call 0151 650 5505

Fairies move in to new WMHA home
We thought it would be nice to share my daughters story. My daughter lives in a specially adapted property suitable for my disabled daughters needs. With the help of WMHA we tried to apply for a grant to help make the garden more wheelchair friendly but unfortunately we were turned down. So we got thinking of what we could do to make the garden a nicer place for her to spend time in. Fairies have always been something she liked. So we started by visiting Burleydam Garden Centre and many various local shops. Burleydam were very kind and donated a broken terracotta pot as well as guiding her to sale items. Using items She had already been given and all sorts of old items we painted, potted, glued and eventually created a fairy garden. It has been a joy to see my daughter taking control of this project. We hope you have enjoyed reading about my daughters achievements and perhaps it will inspire you to create a fairy friendly garden too.!!Mother of WMHA resident.
