Neighbourhood Plans Launched By Wirral Borough Council
Wirral Council today announced the launch of a major new initiative designed to give local communities the power to design how Council resources are allocated in their neighbourhood. Neighbourhood Plans are being launched with a series of presentations by Council Leader, Cllr Steve Foulkes, during the current schedule of Area Forum meetings throughout the borough. Cllr Foulkes said: "We understand that Wirral is an extremely diverse place, and communities have different needs, aspirations and expectations. "That is why we need to ensure that we become more local, and more in tune with what our local communities and neighbourhoods actually need-almost on a street-by-street basis. That is why we are launching Neighbourhood Plans. "A Neighbourhood Plan is a vision for a community. We will set out on a major programme of consultation throughout all Wirral communities, asking people to give us their vision for their neighbourhood-what it should look like, what it`s best features are, and what they would change, given the chance". Cllr Jean Stapleton, Cabinet Member for Community Engagement, continued: "For Neighbourhood Plans to be a success, and to be a true reflection of what local people want, it is absolutely vital that communities get involved with this process. "We will be out in communities, talking to residents, and will ensure that every one of our communities has the opportunity to get involved. I’d urge all of our residents to take that opportunity, and to help shape the future of a Wirral we can all be proud of". The consultation programme for Neighbourhood Plans will run throughout the summer, and will consist of a series of events, presentations and focus groups in every community throughout the borough. Further details will be posted on the Council website, and in the local press, in the coming weeks. For further information contact Kathryn Green, Press and PR Manager, Wirral Council, 0151 691 8088.

Jingle Bells Around The Granges
At a recent coffee morning, residents of Wesley Grange were visited by Merseyside Police in an Wirral Methodist HA initiative to reduce the number of purse, wallet and handbag thefts. Local PCSO Richie and Police Officer Matt gave a personal safety talk to all residents, to raise awareness of pickpockets. Followed by the issuing of FREE Purse bells and audible electronic alarms to all residents, courtesy of a Merseyside Police Property Fund grant. Jill Carter Community Liaison Officer said; "We were very pleased to receive a generous grant from Merseyside Police to supply our tenants with purse bells and alarms. The bells are not only a deterrent for thieves, but they also act as a reminder to secure your wallet or purse". The purse bells are clipped to a wallet or purse and if anyone tries to move the purse, the bell rings to alert the owner of the purse that someone maybe stealing their purse or wallet. For those residents carrying a bag on a walking frame or with a hearing impairment the electronic alarm makes a louder sound to alert the resident that someone is interfering with their bag or its belongings. Merseyside Police offered the following advice: 1)Keep your bag closed and close to you, if possible with the opening towards your body. 2)Close your purse and put it away before you leave the till. 3)Try not to overload yourself with bags and coats. 4)Avoid carrying your purse or wallet in the back pocket of your trousers. 5)Keep cash secure and out of sight.
