Mental Health Awareness week
Last week we had a full range of activities to mark Mental Health Awareness Week. Part of this involved conversations with some of our tenants about mental health. Here are a couple of stories from our Tenants on how Mental Health affects their lives, and how Wirral Methodist Housing Association has helped and supported them:-
“I manage my anxiety and other mental health issues with meditation and having a safe space has really soothed my mental health''
“I live with constant pain and have lost contact with my children, so my mental health can really go up and down. But I’ve got a strong support network — I reach out to friends and family when I need help. I’m so grateful to have somewhere safe now, where people can come to me, especially when I’m not well enough to go out. After being homeless, that means everything.”
“I don’t know life without being labelled with mental health ‘problems’ it’s in us all whether we suffer loudly or silently it’s in EVERYBODY and takes over every aspect of our lives. In the past year I’ve faced every challenge recognised as extremely traumatic, even for ‘normal people’. homelessness, poverty, job loss, physical and mental illness, lack of support and services available, my dog being taken away, family/relationship breakdown leading to zero support. Feeling safe and secure has had a massive effect on my health and Beth my housing officer/supporter has been fantastic in understanding and making me feel heard."
We are proud that our tenancy management service sees the whole person and we make it fit an individual tenants needs.
