John Helliwell
It is with great sadness that we report that John Helliwell, one of our longest serving board members, has recently passed away. John joined the board of WMHA in 1981, after learning about the work of the Association through his time spent as `Social Responsibility Secretary` for the Birkenhead group of churches. John was a highly valued contributor to the work of the Association and spent many years in the role as Chairman on many of the Associations various sub- committees. In his free time he enjoyed walking and golf and joined the Association`s golfing team, taking part in charity golf tournaments to raise money for the Wirral Mayor`s Charity. In 2015, John Helliwell stood down from the Board, however, such was his interest in the work of the Association, that he remained a co-opted member helping out on the Tenants Sub-committee until his recent passing. Paul Carhart, Chief Executive, said “ The Staff and Board of Wirral Methodist Housing Association were saddened to hear of this news and acknowledge the tremendous commitment that John made to the development of the Association over such a long period of time. His contribution will be greatly missed.”
